VisArtico is intended to visualize articulatory data acquired using an articulograph. It is intended for researchers that need to visualize the data acquired from the articulograph with no excessive processing. VisArtico is well adapted to the data acquired using the AG500 and AG501, developed by Carstens (Carstens Medizinelektronik GmbH). Since the version 0.8, VisArtico supports the NDI Wave format, developed by Northern Digital Inc. In the latest version, it is possible to open adhoc format, which allows displaying basic motion capture data.

Main features

► Supporting Carstens and NDI articulographs (AG500, AG501 and NDI Wave).
► Displaying the raw data (as provided by the articulograph)
► Reading the MOCHA-TIMIT and Mngu0 EMA databases.
► Displaying 3D data of motion capture (for instance with FaceShift, or any basic format t xyz xyz ... xyz)
► Visualizing the tongue shape, the lips, the jaw and the palate.
► Providing several possible views: (1) temporal view, (2) 3D spatial view and (3) 2D midsagittal view
► Animating and playing the three views synchronously with audio and in realtime.
Generating video of the 2D and the 3D animations with annotations (see example)
► Offering a segmentation tool with no need to EMA data
► Displaying different articulatory trajectories in addition to the acoustic signal (spectrogram) and eventually phonetic labels.
► Displaying first and second derivative of a giving trajectory.
► Providing meaningful articulatory information.
► Displaying segmentation information at several levels.
► Creating segmentation file. User friendly and supporting phonetic symbols.
► Displaying/Modifying segmentation using audio-only (with any any EMA data)

► Segmentation format supported : Textgrid, ali, lab, seg. ► Improving the quality of the data by providing tools to filter out some outliers.
► Using a playlist to make it easier to handle several files at the same time.
► Inserting 2D images in the 2D view.
► Generating video of the 2D and the 3D animations.

VisArtico is suitable for researchers working in the field of speech production, as phoneticians for instance.

VisArtico is cross-platform software. It was tested and worked on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. It is Java-based software (make sure that Java is installed before using VisArtico).
